2025 Concert Season Performers
May 3 – Misner & Smith
Northern California-based unclassifiable duo Misner & Smith treasure the unpredictability of their band. Technically precise songwriting mirrored with an improvisatory spirit and soaring harmonies have made the band—consisting of Sam Misner and Megan Smith—one of the most acclaimed acts in the Americana world. Blending elements of that genre with bluegrass, traditional folk ballads, and more pop-leaning ideas, Misner & Smith makes music gloriously nonconforming. Before the upcoming release of their career-defining sixth album, ALL IS SONG, the duo has released five critically acclaimed records, including Halfway Home (2004), Poor Player (2008), Live at the Freight & Salvage (2010), Seven Hour Storm (2013), and headwaters (2017). It was that 2017 release that found the group stripping their sound back down to where it began, two voices and two instruments. Headwaters was recorded live in the studio and features the duo doing what they do best. All is Song, released in April 2024, builds on that momentum and turns in their finest work to date. This is an album of powerful declarations to the power of music, song, and, most importantly, collaboration.
May 17 – Katalysst; Max & Julian
Katalysst is a progressive folk rock group that smoothly fuses both simplicity and complexity through thoughtful chord progressions and dynamic bass lines. Musicians Kat and Alyssa met at a local music festival back in 2019 and started making music in 2020, combining Kat's classical operatic vocals and acoustic guitar playing with Alyssa's writing ability and self-taught electric bass skills. Together, they have written a notable collection of songs influenced by the social and economic problems of the age (with a few love songs sprinkled in).
Max & Julian of The Big Poppies evolve from the rock n roll vibes of The Big Poppies band to an intimate acoustic duo, showing a softer side with their originals and covers while still maintaining the fun grooves and intricate harmonies that make this Sacramento-based group a must see.
May 31 - Carte Blanche
Carte Blanche is a unique multilingual world fusion quartet where Brazilian rhythms meet jazz standards, flamenco guitar and French swing. Welsh-born Phil Summers plays the guitar with influences spanning Irish music and Latin jazz. He has been performing since the 60s in many bands and has released 9 albums and several singles. Catherine LeBlanc is the lead singer. Catherine is formerly of the SAMMIE winning band Yolo Mambo and the successful World Beat Band !Akimbo. She has released 17 original songs and 6 albums. Eric Labolle is the band’s guitarist and Nick Carvahal is their percussionist. All members are SAMMIE winners (Sacramento area music award) for World Music.
June 7 - Jaeger & Reid
Jaeger & Reid are Judi Jaeger and Bob Reid, a singer-songwriter duo with beautiful harmony. They both play guitar. Jaeger also has a passion for the ukulele and Reid for the accordion. Together they craft new songs. Their new album “From Way Up Here” features original music and classic folk songs.
Both grew up in musical homes where folk music was a part of life. Folk music, Reid says, is music that you make yourself. The clear melody and stories conveyed through folk music are qualities that draw the duo to it. Already at work on their next album, Jaeger & Reid enjoy creating and performing music together. “It’s the best music of my life and that’s saying a lot,” says Reid. “I’ve made good music before but this is so vibrant with so much range promised. There’s so much we can do that we haven’t even explored yet. You can’t ask for much more than that.”
June 21 – Rita Hosking Band
Rita Hosking's got the spirit, and she knows how to reach ours through her grace, heart, chops, and spunk. With award-winning music spanning 9 albums and 20 years of touring, this country-folk troubadour is a heavy hitter in the Northern California songwriting scene.
Rita’s well-loved, long-time acoustic band includes Sean Feder on dobro, banjo, and guitar, Bill Dakin on the upright bass, Andy Lentz on fiddle, and Rita on guitar, harmonica and banjo. Together, they create what No Depression calls “authentic American folk music to stir the soul.”
September 6 – Rupert Wates
Rupert Wates was born in London and has been a full-time songwriter since the late 1990s. In London he worked with some of the best performers in the city. Moving in 2001 to Paris, Wates formed his own quartet and began playing live regularly. In fall 2006 he came to the US. He is now based in New York City and Colorado. Since coming to the US, he has won more than 50 songwriting and performing awards. His music is an eclectic mix of acoustic, melodic art/folk, with flavors of jazz, vaudeville and cabaret. He has released twelve solo CDs which have received outstanding reviews in the international online press and tracks from them have been played on radio all over the world. In addition, Wates' songs have been covered by other artists in the UK, Canada and the US.
September 20 – Massive Delicious
The band Massive Delicious is currently comprised of two core members, Dylan Crawford and Andre Fylling, and has a rotating cast of personnel that fluctuates in size. Acoustic and electric elements both contribute heavily to the band’s sound, drawing from American Folk, Jazz, and Reggae roots. The band’s ethos is to create, explore, and to share original music while fusing their favorite music genres.
Dylan Crawford created Massive Delicious in 2009 in Boston, Massachusetts while he was studying at Berklee College of Music and playing at small festivals and private events. Relocating to Sacramento, California in 2011, the band generated a local following as a trio and gained Andre Fylling on keyboards/vocals in 2012. Crawford relocated to the Oregon Coast in 2019. The band is currently involved in the production of their latest album “Beneath the Dirt”, and is keen on bringing their music to live audiences.
October 4 – Dirty Cello
From China to Italy, and all over the U.S., Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on blues and bluegrass. Led by vivacious cross-over cellist, Rebecca Roudman, Dirty Cello is cello like you’ve never heard before. From down home blues with a wailing cello to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass, Dirty Cello is a band that gets your heart thumping and your toes tapping! The band plays every style imaginable and does some fantastic covers.
October 18 – Dave Nachmanoff and the Usual Culprits
Dave is an internationally touring folk-rock singer-songwriter from Davis, CA, and is best known as lead guitarist and opening act for Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat,”). He has shared the stage with a long list of artists, including Alison Krauss, Dave Mason, Firefall, Roger Hodgson, and blues legend Libba “Freight Train” Cotten. A full-time touring musician for over 25 years, he plays listening rooms, house concerts, bars, wineries and other venues.
The Usual Culprits feature Martin Lewis on guitar, Nick Carvajal on bass and vocals, and Ryan Davis on drums. The band complements Dave's style with a mix of rock and Americana influences. They provide a dynamic backdrop to his songwriting, showcasing a blend of musicianship that enhances the overall sound. Together, they draw in audiences with their heartfelt melodies and engaging stage presence.
